AHLN President Myrna Mneimneh Elected Vice President of Liberal International

November 8, 2026

Myrna Mneimneh, President of the Al Hurriya Liberal Network (AHLN), has been elected Vice President of Liberal International (LI), the global federation of liberal and progressive democratic political parties. Standing on behalf of Lebanon’s Future Movement, she joins the federation’s leadership for the 2026–2028 term. Her election marks an important milestone for AHLN and for the participation of liberal voices from the Middle East and North Africa in international political dialogue.

The election took place during Liberal International’s 65th Congress, held from November 2 to 6, 2026, in Bangkok, Thailand, and Taipei, Taiwan. The Congress brought together liberal parties, leaders, and representatives from across the world to address democratic resilience, human rights, and international cooperation, while electing the federation’s leadership.

Mneimneh campaigned under the message “Nothing Is Far,” calling for a closer and more continuous relationship between the Middle East and North Africa and the wider liberal family. Her platform argued that the region’s experiences of conflict, political pressure, and civic resilience have an important contribution to make to global liberal discussions—and that international solidarity must extend beyond occasional congresses.

Her agenda sets out three priorities: sustained political education and exchange between congresses; early identification, mentoring, and support for women and young political leaders; and stronger links between established and emerging liberal figures from the MENA region and Liberal International’s member parties. These priorities articulate the contribution she aims to bring to her new position.

Mneimneh brings substantial regional and international experience to the role. Alongside her leadership of AHLN, she serves as Vice Chair of Liberal International’s Human Rights Committee and as International Affairs Officer at the Future Movement. Her work has also supported greater political participation and leadership opportunities for women and young people across the region.

For AHLN, Mneimneh’s election underscores the importance of giving MENA liberals a sustained voice in global decision-making. It also offers an opportunity to deepen cooperation with liberal partners worldwide, encourage the next generation of leaders, and connect international debates more closely with the realities of the region. The network celebrates this achievement and looks forward to the contribution she will make in her new role.
