Introducing EcoRise: Bringing Climate Action and Environmental Governance into AHLN’s Work

November 8, 2026

Environmental challenges affect far more than the natural world. Across the Middle East and North Africa, pressure on water resources, pollution, the degradation of ecosystems, and growing climate risks shape people’s health, livelihoods, and opportunities. Responding to these challenges requires informed public policy, accountable institutions, and the participation of communities in decisions that affect their future.

With this understanding, the Al Hurriya Liberal Network (AHLN) is introducing EcoRise, its platform focused on climate action, sustainability, and environmental governance. Guided by the message “Rise Green. Live Better.”, EcoRise aims to connect environmental responsibility with individual dignity, economic opportunity, and the rights of present and future generations.

EcoRise’s agenda brings together climate adaptation and resilience, biodiversity conservation, pollution reduction, responsible management of natural resources, and a fair transition towards more sustainable economies. It also places environmental justice at the centre of the conversation: effective solutions must be accessible to communities, not limited to those with the greatest resources or influence.

The platform is organised around five complementary areas of work. Knowledge and research will help ground discussion in reliable evidence; capacity building will support environmental education and practical skills; community engagement will encourage local participation; policy and advocacy will promote sound environmental governance; and partnerships will connect civil society, researchers, businesses, institutions, and decision-makers.

A particular priority is to make space for young people, women, and underrepresented communities to contribute to environmental leadership. EcoRise also seeks to show that protecting natural resources and strengthening economies can reinforce one another through innovation, more efficient resource use, and responsible investment.

As EcoRise develops its programmes and collaborations, its guiding approach is clear: translate environmental concerns into informed dialogue, credible policy proposals, and measurable local action. Through EcoRise, AHLN is broadening the regional liberal conversation to include a question that affects everyone: how to build freer, fairer, and more resilient societies while safeguarding the environment on which they depend.
