WoMENA Launches in Beirut with a Focus on Women’s Political Leadership

November 8, 2026

Al Hurriya Liberal Network (AHLN) launched its WoMENA initiative on April 26, 2025, with a training workshop at the Future Movement headquarters in Beirut. Organised in collaboration with the Swedish International Liberal Centre (SILC), the event focused on leadership and public speaking for women in politics.

Sessions were led by women’s issues specialist Abir Chbaro, media expert Joseph Houeik, and self-development coach Nadine Ezzeddine. The training aimed to strengthen participants’ leadership capacity, communication skills, and confidence in political engagement.

AHLN President Myrna Mneimneh addressed the gathering, presenting the initiative’s vision for more inclusive political participation. Future Movement Secretary General Ahmad Hariri also joined the event, while Wafaa Shamaa coordinated its organisation. The workshop received support from SILC, FNF MENA, and VVD.

WoMENA’s wider purpose is to provide liberal women across the Middle East and North Africa with tools, resources, and support to engage in politics and advocacy and pursue leadership within their organisations. The Beirut workshop introduced that purpose through practical training and exchange among participants.
